Hey Reader,
I used to think saying “no” wasn’t enough. That I had to soften the blow with a long-winded explanation, justifying why I couldn’t do something.
But here’s the truth: “No” is a complete sentence.
I learned this the hard way when I finally set a boundary that felt so uncomfortable but so necessary. Someone asked me for a favor—one that I absolutely couldn’t take on without wrecking myself. And for the first time, instead of over-explaining, I just said, “I can’t.”
No excuses. No justifications. Just a simple, firm no.
And guess what? The world didn’t end. They moved on. And I was left with so much more peace.
Saying no without explaining yourself is a game-changer. It’s about trusting that your needs are valid—without needing permission from anyone else.
Have you ever struggled with this? What’s one boundary you wish you could set without feeling guilty? Hit reply and tell me—I’d love to hear your story.

Setting Boundaries Without Guilt: My Hardest Lesson
I used to think saying “no” meant I was a terrible person. Like, if I didn’t show up for everyone all the time, I was selfish. But after years of pushing through exhaustion to drive my mom to appointments—while my own body was screaming for rest—I hit a breaking point. When my dad stepped in, I felt relief… and then guilt. But here’s what I learned: boundaries aren’t about being mean—they’re about survival. They protect your energy, your health, and your peace. And the people who truly care? They’ll get it.

A fellow Spoonie worth following Meet Chloe She's 28 and suffers from POTS and HSD. Like most of us, Chloe had to wait a long time to be diagnosed and she is still waiting on some other tests to be performed for other possible diagnosis. Even with all of this, Chloe recognizes how much she has grown and how resilient she has become in all of this. Chloe loves creating and has started an Etsy shop to share her creations with others. Her biggest reason for finding joy on the tough days though would be because of her partner.
Chloe's advice for others?
- Listen to your body when it's telling you something is wrong, or to rest.
- Don't be afraid to advocate for yourself!
- Rest when you need to, and stop feeling guilty for it.
- Surround yourself with people who are willing to learn about your illness, people who will lift you up instead of bringing you down. And if you can't, reach out to the chronic illness community. Someone will always be willing to listen.
